Experiential Outreach Groups
Bright Pink Face-to-Face Experiential Outreach Events are support groups, turned on their heads! Unlike a standard support group, Bright Pink Experiential Outreach Events take place in the context of a fun activity, such as a yoga class, wine and cheese tasting or pottery painting, and are followed by an organized and facilitated discussion on a topic that is related to being young and at high risk for or developing breast/ovarian cancer. These events offer a fun, inviting opportunity for young women who are at high risk for breast/ovarian cancer based upon a family history, genetic pre-disposition, or previous cancer diagnosis, to gather in a warm atmosphere with a group of like-minded individuals who share similar concerns, hopes and journeys.
Who Should Participate in an Experiential Outreach Group?
You are a good fit for Bright Pink’s experiential outreach groups if:
- You are concerned about your family history of breast or ovarian cancer and are interested in connecting with other young women who understand what you’re going through.
- Your doctor has told you that you face an increased risk for breast or ovarian cancer because of your personal history (ex. atypical breast biopsy, suspicious ovarian cysts).
- You have a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer. This means you have:
- One relative with bilateral breast cancer, breast and ovarian cancer, or male breast cancer,
- Two relatives with breast cancer (including one before age 50), with ovarian cancer at any age, or one with breast cancer and one with ovarian cancer, OR
- Three relatives with breast cancer
- You test positive for a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutation.
- You were previously diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer.
Given the intimate nature of these groups, it’s important for attendees to be able to directly contribute by offering their support, perspectives and experiences as high-risk women themselves.
If you have been affected by breast or ovarian cancer but are not yourself at high risk and would like to get involved, there are many other ways to offer your support to Bright Pink. Visit the Get Involved section for more information.
