Kate Gonzalez
Outreach Ally
Kate lives in Cincinnati, OH with her two children, Nick and Isabella, and her dog and cat, Henry and Chica.
Kate’s mother had both breast and ovarian cancer, and founded the local chapter of the Wellness Community. After another family member was diagnosed with both breast and ovarian cancer, and was then tested positive for the BRCA1 mutation, Kate felt inclined to gather as much information as she could to advocate for her health. Kate tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation in early 2008 and opted for a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. Upon testing positive for the gene mutation, Kate founded a local support group, partnering up with Bright Pink and The Wellness Community, for women at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer.
Kate works for a non-profit women’s healthcare organization, and writes a weekly article for an online women’s health website. Kate works locally and nationally to bring education, encourage dialogue, and create supportive networks for women at high risk for breast and ovarian cancers. Knowing how important support is for young women dealing with an increased risk for these cancers, Kate reached out to Lindsay, and Bright Pink. She’s found an incredible support system, great friends, and the inspiration to live Bright Pink!
When she’s not working, Kate enjoys yoga, running, gardening, cooking for friends and family, and hearing her children laugh. |
